Jakarta - Ketersediaan infrastruktur jaringan telekomunikasi broadband antara wilayah barat dan kawasan timur Indonesia dinilai masih belum merata.
Padahal, menurut Menkominfo Tifatul Sembiring, pembangunan infrastruktur merupakan langkah penting untuk meningkatkan persentase penggunaan telekomunikasi (teledensitas).
Dilihat dari data yang dirilis Depkominfo, teledensitas Indonesia masih terbilang rendah. Penetrasi telepon kabel PSTN baru 3,78%, fixed wireless access (FWA) 7,7, seluler 60,18%, dan Internet masih 13,34%.
"Itu sebabnya kami terus mendorong pembangunan infrastruktur telekomunikasi di wilayah timur agar bisa seimbang dengan ketersediaan infrastruktur di wilayah barat seperti Pulau Jawa dan Sumatra," ujarnya usai peresmian SKKL Jakabare dan Satelit Palapa D di kantor pusat Indosat, Jakarta, Selasa (17/11/2009).
Langkah para operator yang mau membangun infrastruktur broadband di kawasan timur dinilai sejalan dengan program pemerintah dalam meningkatkan teledensitas melalui peningkatan ketersediaan infrastruktur telekomunikasi.
Operator yang akan lebih dulu memulai pembangunan backbone di kawasan timur Indonesia adalah Telkom melalui pembangunan tahap pertama Palapa Ring dengan nama Mataram-Kupang Cable System. Pembangunan yang menelan biaya Rp 500 miliar ini mencakup rute Mataram-Kupang, Manado-Sorong, dan Fakfak-Makassar sepanjang 1.041 kilometer.
Sedangkan Indosat baru saja mengoperasikan Sistem Komunikasi Kabel Laut (SKKL) Jakabare yang akan menghubungkan Indonesia dengan Singapura dan Satelit Palapa D. Jakabare merupakan jaringan kabel laut sepanjang lebih dari 1.300 kilometer, meliputi pulau Jawa, Kalimantan, Batam, dan Singapura.
Sementara Satelit Palapa-D yang diluncurkan dari Xichang, China pada 31 Agustus lalu sudah diserahterimakan oleh kontraktor pada Indosat 28 Oktober lalu. Satelit Palapa-D menelan investasi sebesar US$ 220 juta dan diperkirakan akan break event point alias impas setelah tujuh tahun mengangkasa.
Tifatul berharap, pembangunan infrastruktur tak hanya melalui jalur Singapura dan Malaysia saja. Ia meminta operator juga akan mulai membuka jalur internasional melalui Hong Kong.

October 23rd, 2009, the next day, October 24th, in conjunction with the 'United Nations Day' and 'The International Day of Climate Action', 'The Climate Project Indonesia' will continue the campaign to a larger audience through organizing an event called "350. Berani?!" or "350. Dare?!" in 2 locations. "Teater Utan Kayu" and "Darmawangsa Square" This event is a cooperation between The Climate Project Indonesia, '89,2 FM Green Radio' and 'Life Begins @ 40'.
Why 350? 350 refers to 350 ppm, the save level of atmospheric CO2 concentration. In September 2009, the atmospheric CO2 concentration has reached 384.78 ppm.

The signed declaration will then be processed to become a piece of Batik. We will send this piece of Batik to Al Gore who will bring it to COP 15 in Copenhagen.
